The first year students of the School of Architecture of the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University have been invited by the Cape Institute for Architecture to exhibit their work at THE ARCHITECT POP UP GALLERY from the 31st of March to the 28th of April at 71 Hout Street, Cape Town.
The exhibition entitled PALLADIO AND THE MODERN shows the first two projects of the first year students just arrived from school with little experience in architectural drawings and building architectural models. Their dedicated commitment to the task given, 288 drawings and 144 models in total 432 exhibition pieces, forms part of a three year research program of 2013, 2014 and 2015 in architectural composition given by the Senior Lecturer Architect Ernst Struwig with Arch. Dr. Magda Minguzzi, Arch. Jean-Pierre Basson.
The 36 Ideal Villas from the Second Book of the Four Books of Architecture of the Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio (1508 – 1580) introduce a dialogue with the 36 houses of International and National architects from the 20th and 21st century, on exhibition, in their reciprocal themes of exploration of the language of architecture.
This exhibition is the first moment of rest in Cape Town of a traveling exhibition foreseen to visit the School of Architecture in Bloemfontein during the annual Free State Festival from the 20th to 25th of June and Johannesburg during the annual Architecture Students Congress at Wits from 31st of August to the 3rd of September.
