Department of Architecture, first-year students embrace on a collaborative engagement project with Merryvale Special School. We're pleased to share the innovative work of our first-year architecture students at Nelson Mandela University, who have diligently worked on a special project for Merryvale School's new Autism Wing. The project? Designing a Therapeutic Courtyard!

Our students have demonstrated boundless creativity in their designs with 10 groups presenting unique approaches, including Alice in Wonderland, The Garden Curriculum, Wreck-It Ralph, Tarzan, The Ribbon, Under the Magnifying Glass, Sustainability, and Engagement.

Under the guidance of Dr Siphesihle Nqweniso, our students collaborated with the Honour students in the Human Movement Science department to ensure the success of this impactful initiative.

The students recently presented their design proposals to Merryvale teachers, showcasing their vision for a space that promotes learning and well-being. They're gearing up for the next phase: finalising the designs and seeking funding to bring this courtyard to life during the second semester.

Join us in supporting this incredible project! Together, we can enrich the lives of learners at Merryvale School and make a real difference in our community. #watchthisspace
